Hours: 35 hours per week, some weekend and evening hours
Salary: Range for Sanitarian-in-Training $22.64 - $25.02, Registered Sanitarian $24.30 - $26.68 per hour commensurate with experience and skills
Complete environmental investigations and inspections, associated routine testing and sampling, and provide technical advice to contractors, operators, homeowners and the general public. Environmental Health programs include but are not limited to: food service operations and retail food establishments, vending, schools, camps, swimming pools and spas, body art establishments, jails/institutions, housing units, sewage treatment systems, private water/wells, water samples, solid waste disposal, septage hauling vehicles, water hauling vehicles, vector control and rabies control. Investigates foodborne or other illnesses and public health nuisances; collects water and effluent samples; performs routine tests according to established health district policy and procedures to enforce state and local laws, rules and regulations. Performs public health emergency response duties as assigned. Participate in quality improvement projects, nominate quality improvement projects and incorporate concepts into daily work. Use performance management processes and techniques to improve the effectiveness of public health programs.
Must have a Bachelor Degree and meet the eligibility requirements to be a Registered Sanitarian-in-Training in Ohio or currently a registered sanitarian (30 semester hours of science - biology, chemistry, physics, geology, mathematics, or statistics and be applicable to the practice of environmental health science). May 2019 graduates will be considered. Must be detail oriented, organized, possess strong oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills and strong customer service skills. Must have Knowledge of basic computer programs including Word and Excel. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and valid auto liability insurance required. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds frequently. A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or a related health field preferred. Bilingual applicants welcomed.
